AGRICULTURE INTO THE FUTURE Scholarship interviews were completed this morning (Wednesday 23rd October 2019). The following quotes from the interview panel have been shared from the Quirindi High School facebook page.
“All of the applicants spoke on how this extensive and severe drought is affecting them in their family lives, the impact of drought on their community and the national impact. And while the impacts are devastating, it was inspirational to hear the students talk on how they can learn from the bad times and take the experiences of learning into the future” - Mr Andrew Harries, QHS Head teacher Agriculture; |
“Every student had strong plans for a future in agriculture and were committed to a career in the agricultural industry, they were well prepared and informed for today’s interviews. It was a tough decision and inspiring to meet them all,” – Mrs Marilyn Carter, Farming for Kids;
“Farming for Kids is privileged and proud to be involved in both scholarships with QHS, the students are great ambassadors and the last two days of interviews are a clear indication the school is doing a wonderful job preparing students for their future” – Rob Lewis, Farming for Kids.

Well done to 2018 Agriculture into the Future Scholarship recipient, Sam Avard, who called in to say hello to the Farming for Kids’ Panellists who were at the High School today interviewing applicants for the 2019 Scholarship.
This year Sam commenced a Student Based Apprentice of a Certificate 3 in Agriculture with Andrew Badgery at Talawanta North. Sam has utilised his 2019 scholarship allowance to purchase farming tools and equipment which has been very beneficial. In 2020 Sam plans to do a chemical handling course and chainsaw course and scholarship funds will assist in covering expenses for these courses. Sam says the traineeship is fantastic for him as he can head straight into the workforce with proficient skills once he completes Year 12. “It was great to receive the Farming for Kids Agriculture into the Future Scholarship last year, as it was both an acknowledgment that I am serious about becoming a professional in the agriculture sector and the funds have already assisted me in getting ahead.” |
Sam recommends that any QHS students interested in a School Based Traineeship in Agriculture, should speak to both Head Teacher Agriculture, Mr Harries and QHS Careers support, Ms Saunders.
“Go for it” says Sam. “There are lots of options available to you and the school offers you so much assistance and opportunities.”
